Primary school teachers' views on gifted students and ways of teaching differentiated
Summary:
The purpose of this thesis is to perform a cognitive and theoretical preparation of giftedness, able to pave the way for developing a didactic proposal for this theory. The recognition and education of gifted children is a rich field for investigation both globally and in Greece. In Greece the term "gifted student" is not widely known throughout the world of education. In our country, however, the school context in which gifted children fall, is not conducive to full enhancement of their talents. The gifted students have been found to exhibit or may exhibit high cognitive, academic, leadership and psychomotor skills, and a more creative way of thinking. Therefore, these students belong to the category of students with special educational needs and require special educational instruction and intervention in order to unleash their innovative thinking and their particular talents. A significant contributor to strengthening and improving the education of gifted children is Differentiated Teaching achieved through the use of New Technologies. The use of the computer as a teaching tool can provide an attractive environment for learning more channels and passages bloom the characteristics of gifted and intelligent students. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature regarding the concept of giftedness and differentiated teaching in schools for the education of gifted children. Finally, differentiated teaching offers more opportunities for a more constructive relationship of trust and communication between student and teacher.
