Summary:
Giftedness has been studies by several scientists concerning its causes and its impact on students. Giftedness has a biological/ genetic background, although environmental influences are necessary for its development. Gifted students have various benefits being gifted, such as their professional and educational progress and their low anxiety levels. Nevertheless, gifted students face several negative effects, such as social isolation and poor personal relationships. In order for the gifted students to have advantages by their status, it is essential to reduce the negative impact of being gifted, which can be accomplished through their education. Teaching gifted students can take place either on regular classes or on special classes. In addition, teaching those students can take place either by the use of an enriched program or by the use of an accelerated program. Moreover, a debated issue is if those students have to start school earlier and to attend higher grade classes or not. Thus, there are several debated issues concerning teaching those students, which have to be answered in order for the gifted students to take advantage by their status and to improve their educational progress. In that context, it is necessary to further study teaching gifted students and to implement appropriate educational programs to let gifted students take advantage of their giftedness.
