Summary:
This research is referred to the field of Literature teaching. The purpose is to study whether High school teachers perceive, as adult readers and as teachers, the aesthetic dimension of Literature and consequently whether they highlight it during the Literature class; moreover, if they point out the Beauty of literary texts in the class and through which methods.
This paper is separated in three parts: the theoretical introduction, the main research and the results. At the beginning, in the theoretical context is attempted to investigate the conceptual content of the term “Beauty” in the field of Art, as it is described by the most imminent aesthetic philosophers through the years; moreover, is examined in which ways Beauty and Aesthetics, in general, constitute an integral part of Literature, through the connection between the philosophical approach of the term and the scientific paradigms that have been developed in the field of Literature and influenced the ways of teaching Literature in the classroom; last but not least, it is attempted to approach the teaching methods that point out the aesthetic dimension of the literary text during the teaching.
The research context is a study of three cases of High School teachers. In order the research questions to be answered, a qualitative data collection was conducted, through the methods of observation and interview; afterwards, data analysis was carried out through qualitative speech analysis.
The research findings reveal, firstly, the fact that the teachers that took part in the research have a deep perception of Literature’s aesthetic dimension. Secondly, this perception is depicted in their classes, as they promote Literature’s aesthetic dimension in the class via several methods. Therefore, a connection between those factors is emerged.
