Summary:
This literature research investigated the language deficits of children with autism, as well as the impact of early intervention programs. Based on the data that were collected during the literature review process, the main findings are the following: 1) Autism is a serious disorder of human development, while language deficits are a vital part of its clinical manifestation 2) Early identification of its symptoms is essential, since it provides the opportunity for early intervention 3) In line with the theory of critical period in language development, early intervention is essential to tackle the language deficits of children with autism 4) A variety of different programs and approaches can be used in early intervention 5) In order to increase the benefits of those interventions, parental cooperation is warranted 6) There is a gap between the hypothesized benefits of the programs and the evidence-based benefits of the programs. Since early evaluation and intervention are of most importance to set the symptoms of the disorder under control, it is essential to increase the relevant skills and knowledge of teachers. In addition, it is essential to carry out more studies investigating the outcome of early intervention programs, especially concerning the language skills of the students, so that the evidence-based results can promote the adoption of early intervention programs in educational settings.
