REMEMBERED PARENTAL ACCEPTANCE-REJECTION AND ACADEMIC PROCRASTINATION. THE MEDIATING ROLE OF SELF-COMPASSION.
Summary:
In last decades the terms of academic procrastination and parental acceptance-rejection have a great research interest in the field of psychology. In addition, there is a limited number of studies questioning the relationship between academic procrastination and self-compassion. This research is an attempt to examine the effect of parental acceptance-rejection on self-compassion, furthermore, it will explore the effect of self-compassion on academic procrastination. Moreover, this research paper will be a try to investigate the mediating role of self-compassion on the relation between parental acceptance-rejection with academic procrastination. The participants of this research were 365 students from Higher Education Institutions and Higher Technological Institutions of Greece. The participants were asked to fill out an online form. This form was the composition of the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), Procrastination Assessment Scale-Students (PASS) and the Parental Acceptance-Rejection Questioner (PARQ_father and PARQ_mother). Finally, the experiment also included, a series of questions concerning the demographic factors of the students. The research confirmed previous findings regarding the relationship between parental acceptance-rejection with self-compassion and also, the relationship between parental acceptance-rejection with academic procrastination and self-compassion with academic procrastination. The findings suggest that paternal and maternal acceptance marginally predict a small proportion of student self-compassion. It is also argued that self-compassion is a strong predictor of academic procrastination. Finally, the results of the mediation analyses support the existence of the mediation in all the models tested.
