The signification of Special Educational Needs from the employees in the field of Special Education
Summary:
The aim of this research is to show the subjective experience of the employees in the field of special education about special educational needs. In particular, the aim is to reflect the thoughts and opinions of the employees in this field and how they signify special educational needs of children. Initially, a bibliographical review of the concepts being studied was conducted, followed by a detailed presentation of the research. The sample consisted of ten women working in the special education setting, aged 25 to 53 years. The data collection was based on the homogeneous random sampling and was conducted through semi-structured interviews. Also, thematic analysis was used to analyze the phenomenon under study, while the orientation is phenomenological. The themes that emerged through data analysis are as follows: 1) help, 2) the feelings of first contact, 3) the diversity of the child, 4) the influence of special educational needs on the family, 5) the contribution of the school, 6) the stigmatization by society, 7) the feelings of the child, 8) the importance of diagnosis and 9) the future. Finally, there is a correlation between the existing theory and the findings of the study, while the advantages of research, the disadvantages of research and suggestions for future research are mentioned.
