Education in pre-hospital disaster management
Summary:
Introduction: Professionals from various services respond to disasters. Often, their training in major event management is deficient. However, specialized training in pre-hospital disaster management is inextricably linked to minimization of health and life losses.
Purpose: This review aims at investigating programs, methods and the content of training in pre-hospital disaster management.
Methodology: A systematic bibliographic review in the PUBMED database was performed.
Results: The literature review included ten articles that met all the integration criteria that were set. It includes a variety of educational contents and teaching techniques. Concerning the topics of education, divergence was evident both in content and in individual directions. This heterogeneity does not allow the export of specific results. An important exception is the teaching subject of the sorting of the injured, which was included in all the training programs studied.
Conclusions: The need for training in pre-hospital disaster management is an imperative. This training should be based on well-organized and structured training programs that include a variety of skills in order to reduce the possibility of causing damage from the first "correspondents" and improve the quality of first aid services. To achieve this, appropriate training methods must be used adjusted to the needs of the learners.
