Summary:
The aim of this study was to investigate the beliefs and attitude of students from the fifth and sixth grade of primary school towards mathematical learning. The study was a quantitative survey, with a questionnaire as the assessment instrument. The collected sample contained 167 adolescents aged between 11 and 12 years, from three schools within the region of Attica. The study’s derived results imply students having positive attitude with respect to mathematical learning.
Additionally, with regard to students’ beliefs when dealing with mistakes, the majority of the respondents has positive attitude on how to handle situations encountering them during mathematical learning.
In relation to the factors affecting the attitude of students towards mathematical education, either positively or negatively, the majority acknowledged that the main are the management from the teacher’s side, the between classmates’ cooperation, and their perception on their performance.
Finally, the majority of the respondents believe that they perform well in mathematics, as well as their parents, classmates, and teacher(s).
