Summary:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the importance of emotional intelligence in adolescents aged 11-14 and its relationship to the variables of gender, age and family structure of the subjects - whether they live with both parents or not.
It also investigates the relationship between emotional intelligence and behavioral difficulties, such as emotional, communication problems, hyperactivity and relationship problems.
Data were collected using questionnaires given to adolescents and the results indicate the value of emotional intelligence and its essential presence in the lives of adolescents, but also of each individual since birth.
Its development is considered necessary by the family and then, by school and society, and its contribution to the lives of children and adolescents, as well as to the prevention of difficulties - problems in their behavior, is undoubtedly great.
It is a "protective" factor for the manifestation of behavioral problems and psychological symptoms.
Regarding the variables examined, it is noted that girls are more emotional than boys based on the results, emotional intelligence is evolving and adolescents living with both parents have more emotional intelligence and are less likely to experience behavioral problems.
The family plays a pivotal role in the development of emotional intelligence, followed by other factors.
We conclude, therefore, that emotional intelligence contributes to mental health, good behavior, and its development is necessary.
The families and the presence of both parents play their part in the development and upbringing of highly esteemed people. The "logic" of the heart protects, bulletproofs and accompanies optimism and a positive attitude towards the lives of individuals, from the moment they are born till the end of their journey.
