Technical-geological conditions and slope stability of Harwich Retail Park
Summary:
The subject of the thesis is the Slope Stability Analysis of a site in the town of Harwich, in Sussex, south-east England. For the needs of the analysis, the Slide Software (Rocscience) was used to calculate the Factors of Safety of the Sections under consideration for a particular slope.
The structure of the thesis comprises four main sections/ chapters. The first chapter provides background information about the geology of the site and the area, as well as the tectonics and the groundwater regime. In the second chapter, the geotechnical data are described in further detail as derived from appropriate testing. The stratigraphy of the site is also addressed along with the assessments of the tests and the classification of the alluvium. In the end of the chapter, the geometry of the slope is presented. The third chapter focuses on the slope stability analysis. By utilising the Slide software, the Factors of Safety of three different Sections were calculated both for drained and undrained conditions. Sensitivity Analysis was also carried out and the findings are included in Appendix G. The fourth chapter illustrates the general conclusions and comments following the research and analysis of the site.
The Appendixes at the end of the thesis comprise the results of the Analysis along with topographical survey drawings, data from site specific boreholes, sections and information of the piezometry.
