Attention and Verbal Fluency in children aged 4-6 years of normal development and children with congenital heart diseases
Summary:
There is correlation between heart diseases and learning abilities. The aim of this research was to test if congenital heart diseases (CHD) have impact on attention and verbal fluency of children 4-6 years old. The participants were 106 children, 86 of them were the control group and 20 were patients with CHD. As far as materials concerned, two tests were used. Verbal Fluency Test (VFT) was given in order to all participants' verbal fluency be tested and Children's Color Trail Test (CCTT) was the tool about attention of 6-year-old participants.
Statistical analysis shows that only the results about semantic fluency are significant. This may be due to the small and heterogeneous group of children with CHD. However, if somebody compares average scores of two groups, there are indications for impairment in patients' learning abilities were tested.
