A proposal for a holistic approach and teaching of the Greek language: A case study
Summary:
This thesis seeks to study the impact of the association between ancient and modern Greek, as a teaching method, on the effectiveness of pupils’ learning of ancient Greek grammar and syntax and whether it increases pupils’ motivation to studylearn the relevant grammar and syntax phenomena. Specifically, this researchstudy employed a qualitative case study methodology. Five teaching sessions on grammar and syntax were delivered at Leonteios School of Athens in the academic year 2019-2020 as part of data collection. Data were collected through observation and interviewing means
and were analysed using thematic analysis. Findings suggest that this particular method of teaching enhanced pupils’ performance, increasing their participation and understanding of the examined phenomena. Furthermore, there were evident signs of pupils’ mobilisation.
