School Leadership and Music in Primary Education: An ethnographic study of music culture of schools with music teachers principals
Summary:
This ethnographic study deals with music teachers in primary education when they become principals. focusing in their efforts to establish a flourishing music culture in their schools. There are three main thematic axes in this study: school leadership, music in primary education and music culture of a primary school. Axe A. ("School Leadership") asks if a music teacher principal can be considered as a real leader in current greek educational system. Acoording to axe B. ("Music in primary education") music is presented not only as a discipline or an art, but also as a multi-aspect cultural phenomenon in primary schools as well. Finally, axe C. ("music culture of a primary school") describes various amplifier or/and adverse factors, that co-shape music culture in schools. Principals' related to music views, experiences, purposes, problems, failures and achievements are represented in order to determine the music teacher principal's identity, his effect on shaping music culture in schools and his evaluation of this effect.
