Summary:
This paper is an intervention proposal to enhance the lexical awareness of 5th grade students in the lesson of History. This particular class was chosen as children have the maturity to engage comfortably in an intervention process in the lesson of History because it has an increased degree of difficulty and several requirements. The vocabulary that this intervention aims to enhance was selected from only one section of the textbook in order for the sample to be manageable and the intervention to be more effective. The intervention process is suggested to take place after the teaching of the unit is done, so that the children have already been taught the target words. The selected words are 60 in total. A necessary condition for a word to be included in the vocabulary of the intervention to be reinforced was that it is quite difficult for the children to interpret it, but also that it is not explained anywhere in the textbook. Initially, children are given a first assessment in order to determine the degree of their lexical awareness in the words to be reinforced. Based on the results of this evaluation, the children will be divided into a control group and an experimental group. The latter will accept the proposed intervention which consists of 12 weekly courses. The 10 are vocabulary intervention-reinforcement courses and the 2 are repetition and evaluation courses. The whole process takes place on the school premises and during school hours. The ultimate goal of this proposed intervention is for students to be able, in addition to understanding the interpretation of target words, to incorporate them into their active vocabulary
