Summary:
The present study belongs to applied linguistics, in its contrastive and traductological aspect. It aims to find the points of contact and divergence between the verbal systems of Modern Greek and Spanish with regard to the expression of the grammatical aspect. In particular, the purpose is to find the mechanisms that the Greek language sets in motion when it comes to transferring into its own linguistic system the aspect information that the Spanish verbal periphrasis of gerund transmits.
Our investigation is focused on the grammatical aspect of the auxiliar verb and its transfer into the Greek language, without forgetting, nevertheless, the individual characteristics of the verbal periphrasis in question.
The contrastive analysis is carried out using Bloody Wedding (Bodas de sangre) by Federico García Lorca as work of reference and a corpus that is composed of four translations thereof in Greek. That allows us to observe with greater ease the deviations that are caused by translating a structure that a priori doesn’t exist.
