Abstract:
The pottery discovered inside or outside the Early Byzantine tombs of Greece is characterized by a certain variety. Some of these objects (unguentaria, cooking pots, cups, jugs, decanters and lecythoi) are considered in the bibliography as being exclusively of funeral use. The detailed examination of every single of these forms shows that only one of them could be considered as almost exclusively funeral. The discovery of all the other categories in urban contexts proves that they could only be accessorily used in tombs.
