Object orientation in greek lanquage
Summary:
Mental simulation theories of language comprehension propose that people automatically create mental representations of real objects. Evidence from sentence-picture verification tasks has shown that people mentally represent various visual properties, such as shape, colour, and size. However, the evidence for mental simulations of object orientation is limited. Studying this subject is of high importance on several educational aspects as it has been shown that sentence building and the imagination of each individual can result in various cognitive representations. This project belongs to a multi-laboratory network, termed Psychological Science Accelerator that includes 14 countries. Our study included 100 adults (38 men) (mean age 32.75 yrs, S.D.= 11.2), native Greek speakers that participated in a picture-picture and in a sentence-picture verification task, where object orientation differed. Comparing participants performance aimed at finding out whether same object orientation and use of language (sentence) could lead in faster verification. However, there was found no advantage for object orientation in Greek language. Current research findings cannot be generalized due to research restrictions, nevertheless further studies are needed in order to study the effect of object orientation in Greek language and further assist in understanding object identification, cognitive simulations and possibly expand to educational space of typical population (adults and children) as well as autism disorder related individuals.
