Summary:
This doctoral dissertation constitutes the first analytic-synthetic presentation and examination of the complete artistic process informing the production of R. Kopsidis’ wall paintings in the context of his artistic output as a whole. Specifically, this thesis involves an in-depth analysis of Kopsidis’ original approach to iconography as evident in his work on the Saint Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Pregny-Chambésy, Geneva. Taking Kopsidis’ sketches and studies as a starting point, an aesthetic and iconographic analysis of the wall paintings at Saint Paul’s is undertaken with a view to revealing the artist’s creative process. Thorough reference is made to the distinctive structuring of colour and rendering of plasticity, the drawing and chromatic organization of depicted figures, as well as to the approach to space and method of rendering landscapes.
