Summary
The activity of translation arose many centuries ago and its main purpose was and is to transfer messages from one source language to target language, so as to carry out a kind of communication among people. It is an activity that developed together with the evolution of human civilization over the centuries, respecting the requirements of each historical era.
Reading the history of translation in Spain, we can divide it into eight historical-political periods: from the 4th to the 20th century, going from the Re-conquest, from the Golden Century, Romanticism and Realism, to the present day, each era with the corresponding characteristics that influenced the development of translation activity.

Some features in the passage of history of Spanish translation are: the importance of the intense work of the School of Translators of Toledo, the domination of the clergy and the pursuit on the part of Spanish Inquisition, then the boom of European literature and the influence of French literature on the work of the translator. Also the absence of the copyright of the publisher and the translators who somehow benefited from the translated works, and the assistance of the exiles, who after the political changes returned to Spain and brought with them modern ideas from abroad.

We will observe the development of translation in each period, the characteristics of each period, the eminent representatives, and in the end we will draw a brief conclusion of our research.
