Employment of visual- pictorial aids as a pre-writing strategy in students’ writing process.
Summary:
This particular quantitative research investigates the effect of visual-pictorial aids as a pre-writing strategy in students’ writing process, especially when they write argumentative, narrative and descriptive texts. In order to achieve this goal, we conducted an experimental research. The students were equally assigned to an experimental and a control group. The control group had to deal with texts and mind map at the pre-writing stage, while at the writing stage students wrote argumentative, narrative and descriptive texts. On the other hand, the experimental group had to deal with visual-pictorial aids at the pre-writing stage, while at the writing stage students wrote argumentative, narrative and descriptive texts. Data collected from students’ achievement tests, observation and students’ questionnaires. Data analysis revealed that we cannot assume that visual-pictorial aids as a pre-writing activity can guarantee high writing achievement.
