Interpersonal relationships - Attachment styles and mental health in population of individuals suffering from autoimmune diseases
Summary:
The purpose of the present research was to investigate interpersonal
relationships and in particular, the attachment styles in the specific population of
individuals suffering from autoimmune diseases, as well as the correlation with their
mental health. It was also investigated, which attachment style occurs more frequently
in this study sample, the levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms, the effects on
their mental health, as well as the correlation between pain and anxiety and depressive
symptoms and their social dysfunction.
For the purpose of this research and the hypotheses testing, questionnaires and
scales of self-report measures were used. Mean (values), Standard deviation, and
frequencies were also measured as well as the analysis of the correlation of the
examined variables and the intersection of the results.
The results of the present study, showed that the attachment style that mainly
appears within the individuals of the sample is the avoidant attachment style, followed
by the anxious attachment style, with the secure attachment style appearing at a much
lower percentage. Moreover, positive correlations of attachment styles with anxiety
and depression symptoms were identified and a statistically Mean (values), Standard
deviation, and frequencies were also measured as well as the analyses of the
correlation of the examined variables and the cross tabulation of the results.
The highest percentage of the avoidance attachment style displays stress as a
personality trait and the lowest as state anxiety. The anxious attachment style is more
likely to develop a mental disorder but also depressive symptoms.
