Summary:
This research focuses on the contribution of the family in shaping children's perceptions of the role of gender in society. Through interviews with parents, the research examines the perceptions of these parents, about the bipolar family-career and the existence of traditionally male-female professions and how this two elements affect the professional choices of their children.
The research consists of seven chapters. The first four chapters cover the theoretical part of this work and the last three chapters include the research methodology, the results and the conclusions - suggestions.
The first chapter is about the main problem of this research. The second chapter studies the ways of socialization in general and in relation to gender. The second chapter also deals with society's stereotypes about the two sexes. In the third chapter, the work deals with the discrimination and problems that women have to face in their workplace, the main of which are wage inequality, discrimination, sexual harassment and the difficulty of women to reconcile work and family life. The same chapter analyzes the career choice criterias. The theoretical part of the research ends with the fourth chapter in which is studied the effects of two main socialization factors, the family and the school, in career and academic choices.
The research part of the work includes chapters five to seven which analyze the method by which the conclusions of the work were drawn, the sample, the purpose and objectives of the work, the hypotheses, the results of the qualitative research and finally the conclusions and the proposals extracted from them.
