The quality of life of patients with diabetes mellitus after pottery, relative to the quality of life without mellitus diabetes
Summary:
Introduction: Both Metabolic Disease (MD) and Coronary Disease (CD) are major problems for public health. Specifically, it is estimated that in 2013, 383 million people suffered from MD, while by 2035 this number will have reach to 592 million people worldwide. The main type of diabetes will be the MD type 2. Furthermore, the incidence of the coronary heart diseases is constantly increasing as well. In 2015, according to World Health Organization (WHO), there were 20 million people with cardiovascular diseases and until 2030 it will be the leading cause of death.
Aim: It is studied the differences in Life Quality (LQ) between diabetics and non-diabetics before and after angioplasty surgery.

Method: It is a prospective study, which was conducted in four tertiary hospitals in Greece. There was recorded the differences between the two target groups in LQ using the SF-36 questionnaire. The data were collected through personal interview with the patients, one day before the angioplasty surgery and three months after its completion.
Results: LQ improved in both diabetic and non-diabetic patients after angioplasty (p<0.01). The difference in LQ was from 15.3% to 40.9% on all scales except the Physical Role (PR) and Physical Pain (PP) scales where the improvement was over 60% in diabetics. The improvement in non-diabetics was 80% in PR and PP, while in the rest it was from 29.2% to 60.8%. Non-diabetics had greater improvement in LQ after angioplasty (6.3% to 27.6%) compared to diabetics. All scales had a statistical difference (p<0.05), except for the RP. The difference in the improvement at the LQ of non-workers compared to the employees was greater in non-diabetics than diabetics after the angioplasty (p=0.05). The difference in the LQ of smokers compared to non-smokers was more intense in non-diabetics than in diabetics after angioplasty.
Conclusion: Angioplasty’s intervention improves the quality of life in both non-diabetic and diabetic patients after three months. In both target groups there was a significant improvement in LQ with great benefits to non-diabetics. Especially, in women and elderly patients (> 60 years old) the results were extremely encouraging.
