«Distance education as a tool and its operation in the context of a health crisis»
Summary:
The present study examines distance education as a tool and its function in the context of a health crisis. To this end, the study examines secondarily the bibliography of distance education and, in particular, the historical background, some of the most important learning theories such us behaviorism, gnosticism, constructivism, connectivity, and rhizome learning, but also the categories and typology of distance education, its development, its advantages and disadvantages, and the means available, both internationally and in Greece. In adittion it examines the importance and use of ICT in the development and prosecution of distance education. In the quantitative research carried out using the questionnaire, the aim was to identify ambiguities, shortcomings, obstacles, methods, teacher training and its adequacy, and to effectively outline the overall picture. According to the results, there seemed to be no significant problems in teacher education, and teachers' views on distance education were something they tried to manage in the best possible way, even though most had never done so before. Regarding the logistical means, many shortcomings were found, as well as many obstacles. Finally, they found quite a consensus among the ways of improvement where they would help a lot to develop this way of education
