Anti-heroes in Euripides
Summary:
In the present doctoral thesis, based on the chronological order of their representation, the anti-heroes of the four tragedies of Euripides are examined: Ἄλκηστη, Μήδεια, Ἡρακλῆς, Ὀρέστης. Starting from the investigation of the heroic code of honor, the anti-heroic characteristics of the faces of the four tragedies of Euripides are identified, and are examined not only the special circumstances that led each of these characters to anti-heroism, but also the dramatic technique with which the poet combines the deconstruction of heroes by undermining heroic myths.
