The pedagogical approaches to preschool education : Exploring the teachers' perceptions.
Summary:
The present work is about exploring pedagogicals approaches to preschool education,
and more specifically the perceptions of the teachers of the preschool children. What
we are trying to investigate is what is ultimately applied in practice, but also why,
while the Analytical Programs of Studies and the Interdisciplinary Unified Programs
Framework move in an open approach, many times teachers' practices do not go on
with it.
In terms of methodology, an electronic questionnaire was developed (due to the
outbreak of the Covid–19 pandemic), which was addressed to current educators of
preschool children. The method we used to process the data is thematic content
analysis.
The conclusions that emerged from this research are that the teachers of our sample
know the principles and elements of modern pedagogical approaches and are able to
recognize them, when they are given as a choice in closed questions, while at the
same time they express them perhaps more hesitantly in the open questions.
However, it seems that they have to go through a process until they actually put them
into practice.
