Summary:
The purpose of this research was to document the benefits of swimming both for human health in general and for the cardiorespiratory system in particular. For this purpose, a relevant bibliographic review was performed in the electronic database Google Scholar with search parameters "allintext: swimming heart respiratory benefits filetype: pdf 2001..2021" and a final selection of 19 studies. The usefulness of this activity was highlighted either as entertainment or as a sport in the cardiorespiratory system, positively influencing various parameters. There was also a statistically significant reduction in stress levels in different sample groups. It is also important that the beneficial effects of swimming were recorded beyond age or geographical restrictions in the samples evaluated, while the effect of swimming was also positive in the management of cardiorespiratory diseases, especially in the recovery phase. The importance of the parameters that define the implementation of the activity was also highlighted, such as the characteristics of the training per case and the need for individualization and monitoring of training programs.
