Summary:
Student evaluation of teaching is one of the widely accepted indicators for measuring Quality in Higher Education and has emerged especially in the last decades in the Quality Assurance procedures applied by University Institutions. In this context the student response rate is considered vital for the extraction of reliable results, in order to undertake improvement actions and institutional or governmental decisions. This dissertation investigates factors that according to literature affect the students' response rate to the online completion of the teaching evaluation questionnaires, in order to identify best practices to enhance this response. Specifically, the research was conducted using an electronic questionnaire to undergraduate students of Harokopio University. Overall, the results showed that students respond to the online completion of evaluation questionnaires, mainly as part of their student obligations and less expecting the improvement of teaching, as expected. The findings lead to the conclusion that while there is a strong engagement of students with the University, it has not been enhanced specifically for the process of teaching evaluation. In order to improve the response rate, it is indicated that administrators should communicate to all parties involved the importance and the way of implementation of the evaluation procedure, as well as the use of the evaluation results.
