The Traditional and the New Media as strategic pillars of planning and implementing of pre-election campaigns at a local government level. Case Study for the Municipality of Chalkida
Summary:
Due to the rapid and continuing changes observed in the past decades, it seems that
we resort to new technologies and innovative systems for a wide spectrum of
activities. Focusing on the multifaceted sector of communication, we realize that
nowadays contemporary methods are put into practice depending on the pursued
objective.
Communication belongs to the trends of today’s normality, as it is closely
related to politics, society, and individuals’ lives, ending up being indispensable. At
the same time, there is an intense ongoing scientific dialogue made in the public
sphere over the said topic. As to politics, we use modernized marketing tools, the
most widespread being social media aiming to the targeted content promotion and
attraction of the public.
Therefore, politicians of any kind or those who run for office put high
emphasis on the planning of the most appropriate and suitable communication
strategy to bedazzle the masses. This can be easily understood by the way campaigns
are planned and the combination of both traditional and modern means employed.
The wide utilization of contemporary political communication tools is also met at a
local administration level.
That being the case, this dissertation examines the role of both traditional and
modern communication media, as well as the election campaigns planning and
extent of efficiency, at a local administration level.
