Development of Safety Indicators from Aviation Accident Investigation and Analysis in Greece.
Summary:
The Master's Thesis aims at the Development of Safety Indicators based on the Investigation and Analysis of Air Accidents in Greece.
Decades of continuous efforts to systematically address safety risks in the global aviation system and thorough aviation accident analysis, have made aircrafts the safest means of transportation. The obligation to maintain a very high level of safety is complicated by the dynamic and ever - evolving nature of the air transport system. To adapt to these changes, Safety Management Systems must also evolve to ensure that they can better address existing risks and identify emerging new ones in a timely manner. The existing Safety Management Systems have shown signs of fatigue in terms of their ability to make improvements. The Master's Thesis will aim at extracting a standard set of useful indicators from the analysis of air accidents in Greece, according to the Safety II research paradigm. In this context, mainly data were collected from the accident investigation in Greece as well as from discussions and/or workshops, in which air accident investigators, flight safety systems managers and flight crews participated. The proposed research aims to contribute to the identification of relationships, trends and combinations of hazards that occur in the aviation environment (risk pattern analysis).
At the heart of the research is the development of "proactive safety indicators". The aim of the research is to link safety indicators with the further development of Safety Management Systems in the field of aviation.
