Summary:
The present thesis was composed in the frames of the Master's Degree Program in Italian Language and Literature at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens during the academic year 2019-2020.This master degree thesis deals with three tragedies that befell the Italian army during the Second World War in Greece and memory management.
The aim of this thesis is to illustrate how memory is managed in the decades leading up to the tragic events of the Italian soldiers of the Acqui, Pinerolo, Oria and Mario Roselli steamships. The methodological approach adopted is that of searching, processing, analyzing, and evaluating information, which came from a variety of print and electronic sources. The research material consisted of scientific articles from both texts and the Google database in Greek, English and Italian language.
In order to achieve the goal of the work, it was structured in six chapters. The first chapter presents the theoretical and methodological issues of the work. The second chapter discusses the management of memory by the media, cinema, anniversary events and museums. The third chapter deals with the management of memory through public history. The fourth, fifth and sixth chapters present the historical data and the management of the memory of three tragedies experienced by Italian soldiers in Greece during World War II, such as the massacre of the Acqui Division, the surrender of the Pinerolo Division to the E .LAS and the wreck of the steamships Oria and Mario Roselli.
