Digital Literature: Approaching the refugee crisis through a gamified process
Summary:
This research study addresses a different approach to the course of Modern Greek
Literature, studied in the Secondary Education of the Greek educational system, through
a gamified process by the students. As the digitization of educational tools is
progressing rapidly, the need for innovative and at the same time more effective
teaching methods in highschools has become imperative. The main concept,
‘’Gamification’’, is the central axe of the new experimental process which is explored.
The migration and refugee crisis consist of the main chosen subjects of the new
teaching experiment so the comparison between the conventional teaching method with
a new, gamified educational process is possible. The new teaching process will include
two interactive serious games with gameplay features that could turn the course to a
more interesting experience for the students. A main objective of this proposed
educational method is the positive response to the experimental process by the students
that might perceive it as a process of playfulnessand interactive wayof getting
educated by their scholars. In addition, it aims to raise their awareness on two topics
that remain relevant until today.
