Asia Minor Catastrophe through Eleni Dikaiou's work
Summary:
The tragic events of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the causes that led to it, the people who played an important role and the consequences caused to thousands of refugees are examined by both the science of history and literature. The art that combines the scientific elements of history with the aesthetic features of literature is the historical novel. The historical novel, in the last two centuries, had followed the general course of the changes in the society of the country and served political and social purposes. However, in the last decades of the 20th century there was a significant shift towards the emergence of modern events and in particular the Catastrophe of 1922.

Eleni Dikaiou, with her novels Ta koritsakia me ta naftika and O teleutaios Ellinas tis Smirnis is an important representative of the writers who dealt with the historical novel addressed to children and young readers and her novels are about the Asia Minor Catastrophe. The highlighting of the events of 1922 through her work is done by the method of content analysis and is examined in comparison with the work of two great writers, Dido Sotiriou with Farewell Anatolia and Elias Venezis with Mikrasia, Chere who had been experienced the events of the Catastrophe and they are narrating what they had lived. The comparative study of these works leads to the conclusion that demonstrates the way in which Eleni Dikaiou captures the various topics of the Asia Minor Catastrophe in her work. Then, research topics are suggested for further investigation.

Finally, focusing on the historical novels of Eleni Dikaiou, indicative filanagnostic activities are presented. These activities take place in three phases: before reading the novels, during the process of reading the novels and after reading the novels.
