Philanagnosia and preschool age. The role of Children's Libraries and suggested reading activities
Summary:
This paper seeks to highlight the importance and role of Children's Libraries in promoting literacy in preschool children.

The first part refers to the term "Philanagnosia" in relation to preschool age. How important is the children's contact with the book, how can they love it, how do you cultivate this relationship and how can it last for a lifetime. According to the modern theory of Pedagogy, the first years of a child's life are vital for his mental, social, and physical development. The book as a means of disseminating knowledge, but mainly as a valuable tool of spiritual food contains all those components that make it a necessary means for the evolution of the human species.

What is the role of Children's Libraries and how they can contribute to the cultivation of literacy, as well as to the process of orienting the child to his knowledge and development. These issues will be developed in the second part of the work, which also mentions the purpose and to the goals of the Children's Library, in accordance with the principles of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Equally important is the role of the Librarian, who as a good orchestrator must listen to the needs of the audience he serves, understand the specifics that characterize him and offer him what he is looking for. Special mention is made of the space and operation of the Children's Library, as well as the ways in which the promotion of reading can be achieved through the wealth of knowledge they have in their collection.

Following are philanagnostic activities in the Library. In particular, the program entitled: «Poetry Cycle» will be developed, in which children will have the opportunity to discover the poetry of Giannis Ritsos and Odysseas Elytis. An ancient art form, poetry, the elder of the arts that is beneficial for both the soul and the human spirit, will give us its treasures. The program «Poetry Cycle» consists of two independent poetry workshops and was implemented at the Children's Library of the Municipality of Athens. Evaluation as a measure of the response and effectiveness of actions works beneficially, giving the message that the recipe for success is love for what you do and the belief that you can achieve it.
