Summary:
This thesis explores the communication strategy followed by the Greek state and civil society
actors in the issue of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The main purpose is to examine
and analyze the communication strategies of both sides in such a critical period and at the
same time evaluate their effectiveness.
To achieve this purpose, the following paper sets out some research objectives. The research
objectives include the investigation of the basic communication principles in the management
of crises involving the public health sector, as well as the ways in which the Greek State and
civil society actors managed the pandemic.
The subject of the study is timely because the coronavirus pandemic is one of the most critical
situations in the health sector in recent years. Undoubtedly, the outbreak of the pandemic
has affected people's daily lives in a variety of ways. This is due to the timing and intensity of
the issue. However, it is worth mentioning that the literature is quite limited, because this is
an unprecedented situation for both science and society. It is prudent to mention that the
available literature sources were studied in depth and qualitative and quantitative tools were
used to the fullest extent.
Furthermore, an analysis of the communication strategy chosen by each side was carried out. During the quantitative research, a count and then analysis of the posts on the Twitter
platform of some Non-Profit Organizations and the Greek State was carried out with the help
of the Python programming language. The analysis contributed to the understanding of their
communication policy, as well as the positive or negative emotions that the posts evoke in the
users of this social media platform.
