Summary:
The aim of this dissertation is to highlight Vizyinos as a pedagogue through his scientific and literary work. We will first talk about his turbulent life and the tragic end he had. As a writer who was not appreciated in his time as much as he should be, we will see the influence of his work after his death and the interest of literary circles and researchers. We will talk about the linguistic idiom he used in his works, in which a simple, understandable and caring katharevousa prevails in the narrative parts, while in the dialogical ones; it is demotic Greek with elements of the Thracian dialect. Vizyinos studied at German universities, studied philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, came in contact with modern teaching methods, became a professor, philosopher and psychologist, and emerged as a deeply cultured intellectual of 19th century in Europe. His dissertation The game under psychological and pedagogical supervision and the textbooks Elements of logic for the benefit of the Greek youth and Elements of psychology for the use of the Gymnasiums and Teaching are valuable studies of the 19th century with the aim of benefiting the behavior of young people on the one hand and on the other hand to train and enlighten the teachers of his time by deepening their knowledge. The three scientific studies shed light on the scientific size of Vizyinos many years before the advent of behavioral learning. Then we will present the children’s poems that he wrote with a lot of love and affection for children and we will analyze the six for children’s stories: "Τhe Arab and his camel", "The Terror", "The Scarecrow of the field", "The Thief", "Inside the Amphitheater" and "How time is saved". Being a child himself who never grew up, Vizyinos defines the children's audience and talks to them. Consequently, we will transfer the children’s poems and short stories of Vizyinos in the classroom, on the school stage, in order to make his work accessible, understandable and spectacular in the present era. Through the theatrical transfer we will highlight the great Vizyinos educator, as the children’s literature that left legacy to the younger generations covers modern pedagogical goals. In conclusion, we will appreciate all the facts about the pedagogical value of Vizyinos’s scientific and literary work.
