Geopolitical - Geostrategic Dimension on Disasters. A study of the accident Fukushima (Japan,2011)
Summary:
The postgraduate dissertation entitled "Geopolitical - Geostrategic dimension of disasters, a case study of the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant (Japan, 2011)", was conducted within the framework of my postgraduate studies entitled “Strategies for Disaster and Crisis Management Strategies” of the faculty of Geology and Geoenvironment of EKPA, university of Athens.

The main concern of this dissertation is double: a) to study disasters and especially natural disasters and whether or not they can finally be linked to the term 'geopolitical factor' and consequently to investigate whether they affect an organized state as Japan and b) the case study of the most serious accident happened at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan in 2011.

The choice of this nuclear accident is not random. The accident took place in Japan, such in a fully organized and large state, which could seemingly quickly and correctly deal with the consequences of such a great catastrophe.

The purpose of this diploma is to find out if such an event had been predicted by the experts and how ready they were to deal with it immediately. In addition, it would be appropriate to study whether the outcome of the nuclear accident shaped or changed the geopolitical situation of the wider region as a major factor. Did the country's nuclear power laws change immediately after the accident or was it all properly planned? Similar phenomena are recommended to be studied in the future in the sense of geopolitical analysis.

Specifically, this dissertation gives in detail the concepts of disasters and natural disasters, the basic schools of Geopolitical analysis as a flashback and the concepts of geostrategy. Finally, the case study of the Fukushima nuclear accident and its effects on the economy, development, colonization, society and politics of both the wider accident area and Japan are analyzed in detail.
