Summary:
This Master Thesis is an attempt to review and present the types of hybrid warfare and threats that have appeared to humanity worldwide, in Europe and in Greece.
Hybrid threats and hybrid warfare appear throughout the history of mankind, which is directly related to war. The only thing that changes per century and season is its speed, scale and intensity. It is a form of war that is constantly evolving and dealing with it requires vigilance because it does not come to the fore except when it is too late.
Unconventional warfare is a complex phenomenon and is evolving even more over time. The evolution of technology has a significant effect on it, giving it greater dimensions and scope to grow and evolve.
Hybrid threats include a wide variety of actions and methods such as propaganda, misinformation, political pressure, terrorism, immigration, demographic challenges, piracy, corruption, national conflicts, cybercrime, and so on. security of energy sources.
The terms hybrid threats, hybrid warfare, fake news, misinformation, etc. have been incorporated into our daily lives and into the dialogue of security and, in particular, cybersecurity without, in some cases, being misused, confusing with each other or simply giving them names and characteristics that are far removed from reality, such as as if framing them was another exercise in the meta-truth they intended to suggest.
Finally, a number of actions will be considered to address this global threat, both at the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and at national level. Both the EU as well as NATO, are in the process of adapting to a changing environment. The presence of hybrid threats forces states and international organizations to operate simultaneously on two levels: that of crisis management and that of collective defense.
