Job satisfaction study in health visitors in Greece
Summary:
Purpose: The main aim of this study is to investigate the level of job satisfaction of Health Visitors in Greece. This research also aims to investigate the factors that positively or negatively affect the feeling of job satisfaction.
Material and Method: The survey was conducted through the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) tool. The JSS consists of 36 questions, investigate nine dimensions of job satisfaction. Six additional demographic questions were added to the questionnaire. The questionnaire was published online in the fall of 2021 and a sample of 370 Health Visitors from all over Greece was collected. Statistical analysis was performed using the IBM SPSS version 29.0 program.
Results: The largest percentage of the sample in the survey were women (91.4%), while the age group with the fewest participants was ''> 50 years'' and the largest percentage of participants had more than 10 years of experience (53, 8%). The survey showed that 51.4% worked in Attica and most of the participants in the survey work in the public sector (86.8%). Also, 66.2% of the sample hold a basic degree. In terms of job satisfaction, Health Visitors expressed 50.3% uncertainty regarding job satisfaction. The dimensions where more satisfaction appears are the supervision by manager, the relationship with colleagues, the object of their job and the communication. However, the dimensions where dissatisfaction occurs concern the salaries, the possibility of promotion and the addi
tional benefits that the participants receive.
Conclusions: Health Visitors are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied with their job. Mainly the feeling of dissatisfaction concerns the possibility of development in professional and financial level. However, the object of job appeared to show high satisfaction rates. Finally, there was a relationship between job satisfaction and individual dimensions with all demographics, except gender. Nevertheless, age and work experience seemed to be associated with most dimensions as well as with job satisfaction. However, although the level of education seemed to be related to some dimensions, it did not show a significant correlation with job satisfaction.
