Summary:
In its quest to address the seriousness of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, humanity is leading a series of actions, including informing the general population through the applications of new intelligent technology.
Chatbots are one such technology that utilizes elements of Artificial Intelligence (AI). In recent years chatbots have been developed impressively and dynamically in terms of the use of a "friendly" graphical user interface and interactive communication. They are systematically studied in terms of the ways in which they are integrated into the field of social activities and in the field of health. Being a dynamic and exciting technology with many possibilities for development, we must understand how it works and the impact it has on our daily lives.
This dissertation explores the technology that governs chatbots, both theoretically and technically. The basic elements that make up the technology of chatbots are described, basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI-Artificial Intelligence) are mentioned as the background of chatbots, the classification of chatbots with different criteria is followed as well as a review of applications of chatbot technology in health issues. The way a chatbot works is presented, including the technologies and components that make it up, so that a new chatbot can be created from scratch.
In the context of this dissertation, in order to understand how a chatbot works and is implemented, the methodology, development techniques, and capabilities that make them useful tools, a chatbot application was developed from the beginning on the IBM Watson Assistant (WA) platform, with the name «Chatbot - Iris», which completes a global view of this technology, the development process of which is presented step by step in the form of a guide.
