Measures for the early extubation of cardiac surgery patient
Summary:
Introduction: Early extubation of patients after a cardiac surgery either in the
operating room or in the Intensive Care Unit is applying ever more and contributes
significantly to the reduction of postoperative complications, to the reduction of their
hospital stay as well as to the reduction of hospital costs.
Aim: The investigation through the international literature of the measures that
contribute to the early extubation of patients and the reduction of postoperative
complications.
Material and Method: The sources for the systematic review were searched in the
online database PubMed from January 2021 to April 2021. The search was based on the following criteria: a) studies published in English b) studies published within the last decade and c) studies in adults.
Results: From the literature search initially emerged 1701 studies from the others
finally 12 studies were selected. The studies showed that the measures that play an
important role in the early extubation of patients are: the use of a special protocol,
reheating before the extubation, monitoring the depth of anesthesia, PICCO as an aid
to hemodynamic stability, the important training of patients by physiotherapists as
well as preoperative examinations such as spirometry, chest x-ray and blood gas
collection.
Conclusions: These measures are important for the early extubation of heart surgery
patients and help reduce complications as well as the quality of life after such
treatment. Therefore it is important to implement these measures for the progression
of patients
