Summary:
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many governments around the world to take harsh and
unprecedented measures, such as the incarceration measure. Citizens, in addition to fear for
their health, experienced an unprecedented phenomenon, with educational institutions, retail
and catering stores closed. So the pandemic has become an unprecedented global health
phenomenon and has accelerated the current trends in e-commerce. Governments in their effort
to reduce the spread of the virus, have imposed quarantine and restrictive measures on the
movement of citizens. Thus, consumers turned to online and mobile shopping to meet their
shopping needs.
The current study is one of the first attempts to scientifically explore the impact of the pandemic
in e-commerce in Greece. The purpose of this study is to capture the behavior of Greek
consumers regarding the conduct of online shopping during the period of closure imposed due
to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as how the pandemic affected online stores. For the needs
of the study, a quantitative survey was conducted based on a structured questionnaire. The
sample of our research consists of 283 citizens of Greece, with at least one experience of
electronic shopping and 2 online stores based in Attica, which trade the first clothes men,
women and linen, while the second, in music cd, electrical appliances, computer equipment and
home equipment. The results of the research showed that the COVID-19 pandemic caused
special and many changes, especially in terms of attracting consumers to e-shops. Many turned
to ordering products online, even when they could be served by physical presence (as in the
case of supermarkets). However, it seems that consumers did not maintain their liking for online
stores even after the lockdown was lifted. Of course, e-shops have already started to attract the
attention of consumers; and, despite the fact that they have not kept the attention of consumers,
it still seems that e-shops have come to stay
