Teachers views on inclusive education
Summary:
The role of teachers in the implementation of educational policy and the application of good practices in the classroom has been widely studied internationally. The scope of this research is the study of the teachers’ views on the inclusion of students with special needs in general classes and the correlation between these views and the emotional intelligence of the teachers. These views are necessary, as the teachers are the ones who implement and apply the educational policies. The research sample consisted of 243 teachers (primary and secondary level), during the period May-August 2016. The questionnaires used were MTAI (My thinking about inclusion) by Stoiber, Gettinger & Goetz (1998) and The Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, TEIQue. (Petrides, 2009).The results of the research indicate that teachers trained in Special Education through seminars or post graduate studies have a more positive attitude towards inclusion, compared to teachers who are not trained in Special Education. Finally, there is a positive correlation between teachers’ emotional intelligence and their views about inclusion.
