Summary:
This theoretical - research study aims to investigate the issue of crises that take place in school units and the role of the principal/leader in relation to them.
The main purpose of this master's thesis is to study the views of primary and secondary school principals and vice-principals regarding the issue of crisis management and then to carry out the corresponding conclusions about their role in this issue.
The first part of this paper takes a theoretical approach to the concept of "crisis", the various forms in which it appears in a school unit, and the way in which it is managed.
Then, the second part of the thesis includes the research part, where the research methodology, analysis of the material, conclusions, discussion and recommendations are discussed.
The research was conducted to investigate the different types of crises that can occur in a school unit and the role of the principal/leader in managing and dealing with them. In order to carry out the research, the semi-structured interview tool was used, and 10 principals and vice-principals working in schools (primary and secondary) in Attica and Aitoloakarnania participated.
The processing of the interview material highlighted the most common types of crises that school principals have been asked to deal with, the steps they follow to prevent and deal with them, as well as the obstacles they have faced. Furthermore, the training they have received regarding crises and how to deal with them is explored.
