Summary:
This thesis aims to investigate the assumption that 6th grade students are able to perform the algorithms of addition and subtraction of fractions, while not having mastered the prerequisites of understanding these calculations, such as the development of the recursive partitioning operation. Through the review of the literature on the cognitive schemes and operations that lead to the construction of the concepts of addition and subtraction of fractions and the critical evaluation of the way these concepts are introduced in the textbooks of the 5th and 6th grade of Primary School, the analysis of the data collected from the research conducted is carried out and the conclusions are drawn regarding the initial hypothesis of this thesis.
