From The Painting to The Screen. The Visual Influences in Lar's Von Triers “Melancholia” (2011)
Summary:
Image has played a decisive role to the social, political, cultural structure, but also to the entire evolution of human history. Frequently, the arts intertwine to produce a new piece of work and intertextuality becomes necessary for the interpretation and evolution of the aesthetics of representation. In this thesis, the visual influences of the film "Melancholia" (2011) by the Danish director Lars von Trier will be examined. The cinematographic project captures themes related to life and death, guilt and punishment and, above all, melancholy. This is achieved through the projection of well-known Renaissance paintings, which intensify the feeling and testify to the timelessness of these themes.
