The practices of establishing gender equality in the regime change period: PASOK – Nea Dimokratia
Summary:
This paper deals with the actions of the two leading parties, PASOK and Nea Dimokratia, during the regime change period (1967-1974). This period became crucial both for the democratization of the country and for solving social problems. The work highlights the programmatic positions as well as the actions of the parties both during their establishment and during their government terms. Thus, PASOK contributed to the creation of the National Health System, to the introduction of family law with pioneering concepts for Greece up to that time, such as consensual divorce, civil marriage and abortions which explain strong reactions. On the other hand, Nea Dimokratia was consistently a conservative party, with which it failed to promote the modernization of family law. Also, the paper discusses the case of two devices women, artists and politicians Melina Merkouris, a politically active from a young age but also a socially aware woman from PASOK and Anna Synodinou, from Nea Dimokratia, a conservative policy, which she did not hesitate to support her opinion strongly.
