Summary:
Introduction: According to the national bibliography, the children and their parents ex-perience increased levels of preoperative anxiety up to 60% especially during the prepa-ration of the patient and the induction of anesthesia.
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the preoperative anxiety in the pediatric pa-tients and their parents.
Methodology: The research was a systematic review. Methodology PRISMA (Moheretal , 2009) was used in order to search for primary studies which investigate the assessment of preoperative anxiety in pediatric patients and their parents. The search for, the up to subject , researches was carried out between February and May 2023 through databases Pubmed , Google Shcolar and Scopus . In order to find studies targeted key words were used and published articles in English were selected.
Results: According to the results of this study, pediatric patients experience increased levels of preoperative anxiety. The age of a child, the gender, the history of a previous hospitalisation or the history of a previous surgery, the anxiety of the parents, the family status and the socio-economic profile of the family are factors involving with the expres-sion of preoperative anxiety in children.
Conclusions : According to the results of the study, the use of reliable equipment to as-sess the preoperative anxiety and its proper treatment, in case of risk factors, are of major importance.
