Translated title:
Translation of chapters of a geopolitics book according to Critical Discourse Analysis' and Corpus Linguistics' tools.
Summary:
Tranlastion of 50 pages from a book written in English with specific content (politics, geopolitics, international relations and China) using tools of Critical Discourse Analysis (M. A. K. Halliday's Systemic Functional Grammar as a grammar of choices) and of Corpus Linguistics (word lists, keywords, concordances, patterns and word sketch) with a focus on ideology (Corpus-based critical translation studies). The aim of this paper was to analyze the author's ideology, or his arguments, as it can be extracted from the quantitative data that derives from the tools of Corpus Text Linguistics, both throughout the book and in the two chapters to be translated, and to carry out a translation task from English into Greek in these two chapters in order to carry out an analysis of these chapters using the tools of Corpus Linguistics, with the aim of obtaining similar results in both languages, in an attempt to preserve the author's ideology from one language to the other. The results were similar, and any differences were due to cultural differences (after all, according to Halliday, meanings are formed and words acquire functions in the socio-cultural context of the author, which is not possible to preserve from one language to another) and to different capabilities of the Corpus Linguistics tools depending on the language.
