Nurses role in the care of members of the LGBTQ+ community
Summary:
Introduction and Purpose: In the healthcare landscape, nurses play a vital role in addressing disparities and supporting inclusive and equitable healthcare for LGBTI people. The purpose of this paper is to explore the critical role that nurses play in providing complementary, informed and affirming care to the LGBTI community.
Methodology: This literature review was conducted by searching the PubMed and google scholar databases. The search time period was the last 10 years. The results were extracted using the PRISMA flowchart.
Results: Nurses try to treat LGBTQ+ people with equality and fairness. However, there is a huge gap in health education for both young and seasoned health workers. In order to provide culturally competent care to LGBTQ+ people a holistic change and education must be made in the fields of health.
Conclusions: Nurses' attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors toward the LGBTQ+ community play a critical role in shaping health care experiences and outcomes for this population. Collaboration between nurses and the LGBTQ+ community is essential to promote mutual understanding and promote a health care environment that values and respects all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
